The 2011 Grammy's-Semi Fail?

I wouldn't call this years Grammy's an epic fail, there were some good moments.

Lady Antebellum ruled the Grammy's and Hot97 said this morning they should put their song "Need You Now" in their rotation, lol.

Even though it may seem like country singers swept the night, many of my favorites won, the categories just weren't live. Like my favorite, Usher won for Best Male R&B Vocal performance for his song "There Goes My Baby." Bruno Mars won Best Male Vocal Pop Perfomance beating out the late Michael Jackson.

I do think Maroon 5 should have won something and Janell Monae should have been nominated for Best New Artist at least but oh well, my opinion.

John  Legend won a couple of Grammy's, as well as Lady Gaga. The late James Moody won for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group.

Aretha Franklin's tribute
I like the Grammy's for its diversity in covering different genres of music from rock to hip hop.

This year's 53rd annual Grammy's kicked off with an amazing all-star female tribute honoring Aretha Franklin. Don't worry folks Christina Alguilera didn't forget the words to the song this time lol.

Gaga on the Red Carpet
Next up was Lady Gaga, which was called the performance everybody will be talking about, but it wasn't.

Her hype is mainly built around her outfits, like busting out of an egg. Lets focus on her vocal talent. I like Gaga, don't get me wrong, but her singing isn't the best. I was surprised her outfit for her performace was normal.

Justin Bieber, who left the Grammy's with a whopping ZERO awards, performed alongside his mentor, Usher.

I absolutely loved this performance which started off with a flashback of him singing to Usher in 2007 when they first met. Little Jaden Smith came busting out a couple of rhymes, just like his daddy Will, actor/rapper, who they showed cheering on his son in the audience. Then Usher and Bieber teamed up and danced together towards the end of the performance.

Lady Antebellum paid tribute to the late Teddy Pendagrass and also sung one of their songs, "Need You Now," which won five Grammy's. I really like that song.

Cee-lo Green with Gwyneth Paltrow
Now Cee-Lo Green. Words can't describe this crazy performance. It's like he tried to be different as always but it winded up being a tad bit weird for me.

He performed the song otherwise known as "Forget You" alongside Muppets, yes Muppets, who were the background singers. That's a way to save money I guess lol.

Cee-Lo looked like a man-pigeon wearing multi-colorful, large feathers and a blinged out golden cap.

The beautiful Katy Perry performed her smashing hit "Teenage Dream" which she dedicated to all the Valentines, aww. I loved her outfit and this performance, it made me want to get on and swing along with her on stage.

Let's not forget iconic Barbra Streisand performed as well. I'm so used to her from the Meet the Parents movies that I actually forgot she sings lol.

Rihanna and Drake's steamy performance
Rihanna who recently announced dates for her Loud Tour, worked it on Drake as those two performed "What's my Name". Dancing may not be Rihanna's forte but I think the performance was cute and it was one of my favorites of the night.

My other favorite performance included RIhanna again along with Eminiem and Dr. Dre.

Bruno Mars, B.O.B and Janell Monae all performed together and killed it! Bruno Mars has an amazing voice. I absolutely loved his faster version to the "Grenade" song. He put an old school Doo-Wop vibe on his performance as the TV went black and white. I always appreciate live instrumentals too and Bruno Mars killed it on the drums.

Big Win Shockers
Song of the Year: Need you Now-Dave Haywood, Josh Kear, Charles Kelley & Hillary Scott, songwriters (Lady Antebellum). This beat out Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way you Lie" and Jay-Z and Alicia Key's "Empire State of Mind", which I thought was a huge hit last year. Maybe it was just a New York thing. Don't worry Jay-Z and Alicia did win Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song.

Best New Artist: Esperanza Spalding
This sent a big shock throughout the social networking world as many people didn't know who she was. Spalding, an upcoming jazz bassist took this award. Many thought Justin Bieber should have won or either Drake. Being a jazz fan, I was happy she won.

Best New Artist Winner

Album of the Year: Need You Now-Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum cleaned up house at The Grammy's as social network sites were shocked once again as she beat out Eminem's Recovery Album.

Side Note: Voting members, associations and special committees vote on the Grammy categories. Also, this is not the MTV or BET music awards, the Grammy's includes all types of music.
