In protest of President Trump’s Muslim ban (which is currently on hold after a federal appeals court halted its enforcement) and his plan to build a wall on the Mexican border, thousands of restaurants and businesses across the country have closed today (Feb. 26).

The protest, named a “Day Without Immigrants,” is meant to demonstrate how integral immigrants are to American businesses.

The movement, which originated in D.C., extends further than just closing shop for the day, the New York Times reports. Organizers ask anyone foreign-born living in the U.S. regardless of his or her legal status to also not shop to further show how vital immigrant consumer spending is to the country.

According to USA Today, immigrants and children of immigrants are also encouraged to skip school as part of the demonstration.
In Perth Amboy, NJ, several businesses will be supporting the event including taxi cab companies based in the city. These businesses will be closed or will curtail service, according to the city’s website.
