WTF Wednesdays!-Kidnapping

Did you know if somebody kidnaps you, you have to travel a certain distance in order for it to qualify as "kidnapping"

"Under the law, a person is guilty of kidnapping if he unlawfully removed someone a substantial distance from the vicinity where he is found, or if he unlawfully confined someone for a substantial period." - According to northjersey.com

A Paterson man jumped into a taxi, demanded a ride from the cabdriver, pointed a gun at him and demanded all his money. When the robber went to court he was found guilty on several charges but the kidnapping charge got thrown out and his original conviction was reversed.

"Here, the evidence reveals that the state did not establish that defendant removed Chowdhury a substantial distance from the vicinity where he was found," the appellate panel ruled. - According to northjersey.com

Wow! That is robbery, assault, a gun charge and the taxi driver was forced to drive against his will...that definitely sounds like kidnapping.
