Lauryn Hill Faces Court and Possible Jail Time Over Unpaid Taxes

Singer-songwriter and actress Lauryn Hill who is better known for making up one-third of The Fugees, has been charged with failing to file income tax returns for several years with the IRS.


According to reports, Lauryn now makes most of her money from music and film royalties and has earned more than $1.6 million during the three years that she failed to file returns; 2005, 2006 and 2007.




37-year-old Lauryn Hill currently resides in South Orange, New Jersey and she is scheduled to appear in court on June 29 in Newark. 


She could face a maximum penalty of a year in prison and $100,00 fine on each charge. 


After years away from the public eye, Lauryn recently was a surprise guest on Hot 97's Summer Jam this past Sunday (June 3) in East Rutherford, New Jersey where she performed her hits "Ready or Not," "Lost Ones" and "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)" alongside Nas. 


Lauryn also recently performed at the Highline Ballroom in New York City for a one-night-only performance.
