Wendy Williams apologizes after facing backlash for comments about gay men

Yesterday, I attended The Wendy Williams Show at Chelsea Studios in New York City and had such an amazing time!

All was good during the live taping of Thursday's (Feb. 13) show but Wendy faced some backlash for comments she made about gay men.

As the 55-year-old television host was doing her Hot Topics segment, she asked the audience if they celebrate 'Galentines Day.' When some men clapped in the audience she said the holiday isn't for men, it's for women... hence the name GALentines Day, as she pointed out.

"If you’re a man and you’re clapping, you’re not even a part of this," Wendy said. "You don’t understand the rules of the day. It’s women going out and getting saucy and then going home. You’re not a part."

She then continued, "I don’t care if you’re gay. You don’t get a [menstruation] every 28 days. You can do a lot that we do, but I get offended by the idea that we go through something you will never go through."

"And stop wearing our skirts and our heels," Wendy stated. "Just saying, girls, what do we have for ourselves?... Lookie here now, gay men, you’ll never be the women that we are. No matter how gay.”

Mind you, there were gay guys in the audience and no one seemed offended by Wendy's comments at the time, and some women were even clapping and cheering. But, social media tore into the veteran entertainment mogul and called her out for her comments.

Fast forward to today and Wendy is apologizing for her comments. She uploaded a video on her Instagram page and explained that after yesterday's taping, she went home and rewatched her show (as she frequently does to critique herself and the show). That's when she realized her comments were out of pocket.

"I did not mean to offend my LGBTQ+ community," she said.
