Soul/R&B Singer Musiq Soulchild Pursues a Rap Career... Don't Laugh, He's Serious About This!

Musiq Soulchild on The Breakfast Club this morning
When I turned on Power 105. 1 this morning to listen to my favorite morning show The Breakfast Club, the morning hosts were interviewing Musiq Soulchild. I was like, okay cool, that man can sang!

You know Musiq for delivering love ballads like "Love," "Dontchange," "Yes," and the lists of these beautiful R&B songs from him go on and on.

Well, it was a shocker to me to hear him say during his interview that he is rapping now!

Well, Musiq actually announced this news last month and a lot of people on Twitter weren't feeling his decision to rap.

"The Husel"
Musiq's rap persona will go by the name of "The Husel"... which I thought was The Hustle at first.

So The Husel came on the show - rocking thick gold chains and looking like them ol' school rappers - to talk about his new rap career, but he winded up defending it.

Like me, The Breakfast Club hosts were a little confused with his new decision, especially the hardest radio personality of them all: Charlamagne Tha God.

It seemed like Musiq a.k.a The Husel (I'm not sure what to call him anymore) was getting a little mad with the way the interview was going over his choice to pursue a rap career.

I have nothing against it. Like Musiq said, why can't an artist be creative? Us fans listen to different genres of music, everyone seems to be doing it too, so why can't he be a rapper? He just wants a chance to put out the music and try out.

"People put out albums, I'm putting out personalities," the singer/new rapper said.

When Charlamagne asked Musiq if this rap move was based upon not being respected as a soul/R&B singer, Musiq seemed a bit frustrated and said, "I'm not stopping Musiq Soulchild. I'm actually working on another Musiq Soulchild album."

Oh, that's good to know!

Charlamagne also said he listened to some of The Husel's records and said they were not hot. DJ Envy told Musiq he sounded a little crazy and also thinks he's chasing a check.

Musiq went on to set the record straight with the listeners... his fans and anyone doubting him, "I'm not doing this as a publicity stunt, I'm doing this because this is what I want to do."

"I'm not selling out. I'm not a part of the Illuminati. I'm just being creative and having fun with music," he said.

Charlamagne posted the photo above on his Instagram earlier and said The Husel was not happy

Well, Beyonce has Sasha Fierce and Nicki Minaj has different alter egos... what do you make of Musiq Souldchild's alter ego The Husel?

I do give him credit for standing his ground on his decision and making it through this interview.

Charlamagne even went as far as to say, "Somebody said your good eye is Musiq Soulchild and the bad eye is The Husel."

Oh nooo! Check out the interview below:
