Peace Out to Another Cast Member in Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Finale

Quick Finale Recap, Jerrika Hinton Bids Farewell + My 'Grey's Anatomy' Binge Journey

Dr. Stephanie Edwards (played by actress Jerrika Hinton) is done with Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. At the end of last week's episode, us viewers were left wondering whether Stephanie would survive the fire blast.

Grey's Anatomy creator Shona Rhimes proved that Grey's can still pull off amazing TV episodes. This was not like the typical tragic Grey's ending that I was expecting. I for sure thought Stephanie was going to die (especially after hearing that she was leaving the show to play in another TV series). But, Shonda tricked me (as I'm sure other viewers were surprised) when Stephanie survived the fire! The little girl she saved survived as well! Both of them suffered burns and bad wounds, but they'll be fine.

I guess the easy way out would've been to kill off her character. But, I think it's very smart to keep her character alive, you know, just in case Stephanie wants to make an appearance here or there. Unfortunately, we won't see Stephanie as a doctor anymore. After her tragic experience, she told Richard Webber that she's quitting the medical program and just wants to enjoy life outside of the hospital.

That was such an awesome finale - I watched it three times already!

Jerrika Hinton Bids Farewell

Hinton posted a goodbye message to her castmates and to her fans:

-- "I am eternally thankful for five seasons of #GreysAnatomy and a graceful departure that underscores the courage it takes to choose yourself. That Stephanie literally walks through fire to reach freedom — her freedom — inspires me. It also makes me curious: What does freedom look like for you, dear viewer? After all, it’s not only the heroics that make her brave, it’s her finally seeing (and seeking) a better path. #onlyfreakingsuperheroes #takeyourpastandfindyourpath You fans and viewers are some of the most devoted folks I’ve ever met. Thank you for your endless energy. Bosslady Shonda, Queen Debbie, and entire the Grey’s Anatomy cast and crew forever remain in my heart. The #Shondaland family is a mighty, winding forest. I look forward to seeing you all in another clearing."

-- "To the ones who look like me — it is for you that my heart burns brightest. I hear you when you say I represent you. Thank you for your warmth and patience. I see you, sis! It has been the greatest honor to show us *us*. Eking out this kind of #representation on a weekly basis within a medium that continues to correlate value with proximity to whiteness is a feat. That I got to deliver a relatable, recognizable and unvarnished #StephanieEdwards who looks and feels like women I know — who are people rather than ideas — has been worth more than you know. Thank the tv gods for #TGIT."

My 'Grey's' Binge Journey

So, I realized I've never blogged on my actual website about Grey's before. I'm more of a new viewer, but from now on, I'm going to start posting random recaps.

I can't believe this show has been on air since 2005 and I just got into it. Well, better late than never!

I started my binge watching towards the end of last summer after watching a random scene of Christina and Preston hooking up for the first time in one of the on-call rooms. He brought her coffee and she wanted to personally thank him *wink, wink* (If you follow me on Instagram, you might've seen my posts here and there during my binge journey - #OooLaLaTVChats).

I quickly became hooked to this show, especially with all those steamy hookups that were happening in and out of the hospital.

I banged out all of the first 12 seasons on Netflix within a couple of months. I was on straight zombie mode! A couple of weekends, I literally did nothing but watch Grey's from sun up to sun down. And, I was not to be interrupted!

I had a goal and I needed to complete it: catch up on Grey's. Boom! I was focused.

I zoomed through almost every season, expect for season 11. It took me the longest to get through that season because I knew what was coming: Derek died.

And, it wasn't a shocker (thanks to the internet and spoilers!) but I wasn't ready to watch it. I even watched the hospital scene on YouTube, you remember... when Derek is brain dead and Meredith lets him go (yes, I spoiled it for myself). I was mentally trying to prepare myself for Derek's death. Finally, I got through the dreadful season 11 and there's no more McDreamy.

I understand that Derek has been dead for awhile for a lot of you fans and maybe some of you have moved on. But, I'm still not over it. This is still all too fresh for me.

Fast forward to now....

I watched the beginning of the current 13th season on Hulu until I was all caught up to watch live on TV every Thursday night with the rest of the world.

And now, I don't know what to do with myself! I'm just waiting on season 14 just like everyone else.

*Sigh*

It was all so easy to continuously play the next episode and watch when I want. I didn't have to go through all of the commercials or wait till next week (or even a new season!) to see what happens next or to know the fate of a certain character. Like, the plane crash episodes, or Jackson declaring his love for April and interrupting her wedding (one of my all-time favorite Grey's episodes!) or when that crazy old guy shot up the hospital in season 6 or how about when a patient had a bomb lodged in his chest and it later exploded in season 2! I would've lost my mind waiting around back then just to see what happens next.

Gosh, I love this show! But, I tell ya, this 'having to wait until next season to know what happens next' thing kinda sucks. Lol.

I should sue Shonda for all the emotional distress she has put me through since binge watching Grey's! Lol. This is the ONLY show that has made me cry like a baby, and I'm not that much of a crier. (I didn't even cry at that movie The Notebook ... I'm just saying).

I've grown super attached to these Grey's characters only for most of them to die or exit the show. Then I'm yelling at the TV, like: DAMN YOU, SHONDA RHIMES!

Ugh!

I still miss George!

Time to re-watch the first 5 seasons.
