India Arie is not here for Zoe Saldana portraying Nina Simone in the upcoming Nina biopic.
As previously posted, Zoe has been catching a lot of heat lately for darkening her face and wearing a prosthetic nose in her recent movie role in Nina.
In a recent interview with Billboard magazine, the R&B songstress said:
"It made me sad. The way she [Zoe] looked in the movie was ugly. Whether or not Nina Simone was beautiful in your eyes, I thought she was beautiful. But in this movie, she just looked weird. Her skin looked weird, and her nose looked weird. It made me wonder, was that how the filmmakers see her? Did they not think she was beautiful? Were they like, "Yeah, we got it! That's how she looked.""
India also fired off a series of tweets about the casting decision:
